Likes DO NOT pay the bills!

Let's be blunt: likes aren't the solution to anything. They don't provide enough to live on, help you pay bills, or even solve your weekly shopping spree. In the world of social media, limiting yourself to just likes is a bit like throwing away a ticket: you might get a round of applause, but there's a long way to go before your plan is on track.

Too many people and too many companies are driven by "likes ." But things change radically when you truly understand what that data means ; that's when you start making decisions that really matter.

WHY ARE "LIKES" SUPERFICIAL?

Because they stay on the surface. They tickle the ego, sure, but:

  1. They do not indicate a desire to acquire.
  2. They do not ensure that the client stays.
  3. They don't reveal whether the content helps your business.

Looking at the "likes" is like seeing if they wink at you when they meet you... without noticing if they avoid you afterward.

THE STATISTICS THAT REALLY COUNT (WITH CASES)

 1. Genuine participation ("engagement index")

Quantity isn't everything; quality matters. A profile with a thousand fans and a hundred and fifty engagements is in better standing than one with ten thousand and eighty likes.

What to observe?

  • Notes
  • Broadcasts
  • Archived
  • "Reactions" in "stories".

Case study: A post with twenty genuine comments (questions, points of view, acknowledgments) is worth more than two hundred silent "likes."

2. Explanation of scope and impressions

  • Impressions = the total number of times your post appeared on screen, even if someone viewed it multiple times.
  • Reach = the number of unique users who saw your post at least once.

Understanding this is key to seeing if your content is resonating or if no one is noticing.

For example, if impressions are high but reach is limited, it means the same people are viewing your content repeatedly. You may need to reach new people or change your content.

3. Clicks on the link

This is truly worth its weight in gold. If you're publishing something with the goal of driving traffic (to your website, store, landing page, etc.), clicks are the king of metrics.

Are you getting likes but no one clicking? Serious problem.

Example: You posted "Discover my new service" and received 150 likes, but only 2 clicks. Be careful: either the copy isn't convincing, the link is poorly placed, or it's simply not interesting.

4. Conversion rate

This is where you see the money. And what happens after that damn click?

  • Are you in, at least?
  • Do you make any purchases?
  • Or at least ask for information?

"Be careful, there is no true success on social media if you don't convert."

Example: If you have 100 clicks on your website and only 1 purchase, your conversion rate is 1%. From there, you can work to improve that process.

5. Audience expansion (with substance)

Does your fan count increase or decrease every time you upload content?
However, instead of obsessing over increasing your fan count, look for fans who fit your brand : your ideal niche.

Example: Getting 200 new fans all at once thanks to a Reel that went viral is great, but if they then disappear or don't participate, they're not worth it.

6. Keep your attention on Reels and Stories

Especially when it comes to short videos. If you upload a Reel and people tune out almost instantly... time to polish that post, right?

For example: If a half-minute video only lasts 8 seconds, it's vital to check the content, pacing, and what you're offering.
